IEM Season X Katowice Group Stage Concludes

The group stage of IEM Season X Katowice has finally finished and although there were some surprises, every team advancing to the playoffs deserves it, now the six advancing teams will be playing in the playoffs in front of thousands of people at the Spodek Arena in Katowice, Poland

The Group of Death

Fnatic came into this event as heavy favourites to win the entire tournament, being virtually unstoppable since the roster change that saw Pronax leave the team and Dennis become the new in game leader, with JW returning to the peak of his career, it looks like Fnatic won’t be stopped.

One team to stop Fnatic, at least in the best of one format is Luminosity Gaming, finishing the group in first place the Brazilians have earned themselves a bye into the semifinals of Katowice.

Rounding out the group in third place was Natus Vincere, after losing to both Fnatic and Luminosity to fall behind 0-2 in the groups, Na`Vi regained their form and ended the group stage with a 3-2 record and advancing to the quarterfinals where they’ll play Tempo Storm.

Hometown Dreams

Virtus Pro came into Katowice as a huge question mark, with their 1-11 record  in the ESL/ESEA Pro League many fans counted them out if Katowice completely, but something about the chance of playing in front of their home crowd brings the best out of VP, after falling pretty handedly to Astralis on Overpass, VP bounced back with an amazing performance against a struggling EnVyUs team, eventually making it out of the group with a 3-2 record.

The biggest surprise of group B for surely has to be the fall of EnVyUs, widely considered as one of the best teams in the world EnVyUs has been struggling recently. After a poor performance at ESL Barcelona in which they placed fifth, they get knocked out of the group stage of Katowice with a 1-4 record with their only win coming against FaZe.

Looking Ahead

Katowice will continue Friday as the action shifts to the Spodek Arena where the QuarterFinals will take place in front of thousands of fans.

The first Quarter Final will pit the upcoming Brazilians Tempo Storm against the slumping Ukrainians from Natus Vincere, will the Brazilians be able to handle the pressure of playing on the absolute biggest stage of their lives?

Virtus.Pro got the short end of the stick drawing Fnatic in the Quarters, will VP be able to find the form that lead them to winning Intel Extreme Masters 2014 in this exact arena? Tune into all the action tomorrow on at 6:30AM EST, 11:30AM GMT
